Black MOURNING Handkerchief Wide Crocheted Lace Trim In days gone by a lady was never without her handkerchief in her purse or pocket. Since some of the more elaborate or colorful hankies were not appropriate for all occasions, hence was the creation of the mourning hankie. This simple yet elegant lace edged hankie would be a beautiful mourning, or pocket hankie. This ladies hankie is about 13" square and has a 1.5" wide crocheted cotton lace trim.

WOW, I had a terrible time trying to photograph this vintage mourning handkerchief. It is really a neat design & prettier than photos show! The black hankie has a border of small white embroidered flowers. There is an over-all shadow print of flowers (hard to photograph) The hankie has a scalloped hemline trimmed in white and measures about 11" square. The hankie is framed by a 2" border of teeny matching flowers. Flowers are white with black centers and black leaves. In days gone by a lady would never be without a hankie. Some of the more colorful variety were not appropriate for funerals, thus the mourning hankies done in black or simple black & white. Handkerchief measures about 10" square. Excellent vintage condition, perhaps unused.

The beautiful 2" wide lace trim is a net lace with embroidered floral design. There is a dainty little circle trim all the way around the lace. The handkerchief measures about 11" square and is in perfect unused condition. Just lovely!

The pictures really do not do justice to this beautiful and quality black lace handkerchief. Often used as mourning hankies, the black handkerchiefs are some of the most sought after by collectors. This stunning Swiss made hankie is 60% linen and 40% cotton. The center of the hankie has a rather rounded shape to it, with a bit of a teardrop at the center of each of the 4 sides. The net lace design is quite pretty. Very delicate lace is trimmed with small circles that most resemble tatting work. There are small sprays of roses embroidered atop the lace. You will be very pleased with this wonderful hankie. Perfect and unused, measures about 11" square.
