Beautiful white dogwood blossoms on lemon yellow handkerchief. This is from a local estate sale here in New York and is in very nice vintage condition. Hankie has a scalloped edge and a larger spray of the dogwood flowers in the main corner. As legend has it, the cross on which Jesus was crucified was made from a dogwood tree. God decreed that the dogwood tree would from that day forth never grow large enough to be used to make a cross. Thus, the dogwood tree is a small, under story tree. The flower of the dogwood has four petals which makes the shape of a cross. The center of the flower resembles the crown of thorns with bright red, clustered fruit in the center representing the blood of Christ. Hankie measures about 13.5" square.
I am always drawn to the red colored vintage handkerchiefs! This one is very pretty with large blooming red and pink florals mixed with some smaller blue flowers and a few orange too. The hankie has a red stitched hem and a border of small flowers. There is also a sweet white on white "faux lace" design. Unused vintage condition, hankie measures about 11.5". Pretty to frame!
A festive and beautiful vintage ladies handkerchief. I used to live near the poppy reserves in southern California, and these pretty orange poppies reminded me of the poppy fields in spring. Beautiful blooming orange poppies are mixed with white and yellow shaded asters. Smaller orange and white asters are scattered about the entire hankie. Hankie has a white on white sateen stripe around the border and the scalloped hem is stitched in orange. Hankie measures about 13.5" and is in pristine vintage condition with no damage. Appears to possibly be unused
