Crazy---Newegg even sells wine coolers... Never felt the need for one (basement has served me well), but if I ever change my mind, I imagine this is a better place to look than some overpriced "wine specialty" shop...
smell: cherry, juicy, alcohol, hint of earth, violets, dried flowers, beef tenderloin; taste: juicy, acidy, some tannin, some body, alcohol, smoke; nicely made; very nicely balanced; no harsh "edges" except high alcohol; excellent w/ salami; food friendly; very nice wine, but I've had better in this price range
smell: hint of rubber; taste: effervescent, a little spicy, green apple, but not at all tart; very acidic, but enough sweetness to balance; "full" to "full bodied"
"Sur Lie", meaning that the wine remained in contact w/ its sediment for winter; slightly effervescent, crisp, lively; taste: mineral, grass field, hint of hay; smell: lime; excellent balance; good food wine (high acidity, mild flavors)
smell: tropical fruit, citris, mint, grass; taste: honeysuckle, lime, slight bitterness; texture: crisp, but easy drinking; good acidity; pleasant, enjoyable, very good flavor balance; no oak
some tannin, juicy, slight alcohol taste; pairs nicely w/ orange (rind) flavor; yum, good balance; a bit too much alcohol; slight cherry flavor; NEXT DAY: suede mouth feel, noticeable alcohol (a bit too much!); good balance
Keep this in your freezer. When you want to chill a bottle of wine, slip this on. Only takes 5-10 minutes depending on the starting temp of the bottle. Waaaaaaay better than an ice bucket! (both faster and less messy)
I like the basic waiter's corkscrew the best for opening bottles, but this might be a fun present for your local wine afficianado.
