These are original Japanese karakuri or "trick mechanism" by Keisuke Saka, one of Japan's best paper engineers. Mr. Saka's beautiful designs use only a few moving parts, yet produce elegant (and darkly humorous!) movement. A penguin attempts to escape the thawing tundra! Turn the crank and the penguin helplessly repeats his attempts to lift-off. Sadly, our darkly humorous penguin is not equipped to fly.
