This is very 60s mod, but there's kind of a rorschach faux-symmetry to it which I really like. The darker blocks on the bottom draw the eye down instead of half-up and half-down, and the white might be a little too bright to wear on my hips, but it's real nice with the luggage brown and red. Plus this wouldn't be prohibitively hard to do yourself. I shall try it! woo!
Though I have slightly mixed feelings about using doubleknit for a mondo-expensive skirt, this is some great detailing on the wiastband. And at least the 'knit will stretch a bit so you can get a size that fits you snugly but still allows you to, you know, breathe.
I'm all about the skirts this year, and a good pencil-style is a total necessity. I also am digging the prints for the skirts, and this is the sort of thing you could probably find in a home dec fabric more easily (and probably less expensively to boot). I like the high waist that incorporates a contrasting-grain waistband the the slanty pockets. Whattaya call them?
Woo Donna Karan! Go girl! I love this unabashedly, and if the twisted waistband had to battle it out with the sheer trim at the hem, it would be one long evening. I'm just not 100% behind using big ol' polka dots with all them pleats. Just sayin'.
I'm not sure I could look good in a trim, below-the-knee silk skirt, but it is tempting to try it out. I love pleated silk--just think it's classy--and that underskirt with the peekaboo whatsit? I am yanking that back into the long tunic with skirt trend of the mid-to-late 1930s. Which I totally adore, natch.
