According the the book Childrenâs Handkerchiefs, "Elsie the cow", the then recent named "spokescow" for Borden Dairy products became a celebrity when she was featured at the 1939 Worlds fair. Elsie was eventually given a husband named Elmer and a family in 1947, when their young calf, Beauregard, was given his name in a contest that drew millions of entries. As part of an advertising campaign by Borden, various items were created carrying her image, including a series of at least eight different colorful childrenâs handkerchiefs. All of them seemed to involve Elsie and her new baby Beauregard." The hankies were printed in 2 different sets in four colors, pink,blue , gray and green. The book prices the hankies at between $35-$50 each.
