What is StyleFeeder?
StyleFeeder is a personal shopping engine that makes personal recommendations, just for you. It’s a great way to discover new products and keep track of what you’re shopping for online, using visual bookmarks. To get the full scoop about how StyleFeeder can work for you, visit our Learn More page.

How do I find something cool on StyleFeeder?
To get started, click any tag on the home page or enter a word in the search page. Looking for a t-shirt? How about something made from alpaca? Each tag represents something that other StyleFeeder users have saved and labeled with that keyword.
You can also look at someone’s entire bookmark list. For example, click here to see what the user BeaFleur has saved.

How do I add something to StyleFeeder?
If you like something you have found on StyleFeeder, you can click the “+” button from a list of items, or the “Copy to StyleFeed” button on an item detail page.
To add items you find elsewhere (from anywhere on the web!), use the browser buttons described on this page.

When I add the browser button, it doesn’t show up in Internet Explorer. What’s wrong?
Check to see if it’s available in the toolbar customization window. You might have to “unlock” your toolbar buttons.

Firefox won’t let me install the add-on. What’s wrong?
Firefox won’t allow most sites to install add-ons unless you specifically say it’s OK. To allow the installation, go to your Firefox Preferences dialog window and click the “Security” tab. The first item on that page should be “Warn me when sites try to install add-ons,” and you should see a button that says “Exceptions…” Click the button and add “www.stylefeeder.com” to the list of allowed sites.

I’ve installed the Firefox add-on, but I don’t see the button. What’s wrong?
You have to quit Firefox and start it again before any add-ons will take effect.

When I add the bookmarklet, Internet Explorer gives me a warning about “unsafe bookmarks.” What does that mean?
Internet Explorer’s default safety settings warn you whenever you’re adding a bookmarklet, because instead of just taking you to a page it does something — in this case, help you select an image and guide you through adding an item to your StyleFeed. Our bookmarklet is safe, but if you prefer not to use any bookmarklets, you can go ahead and use the browser buttons or Web form instead.

What’s a Watchlist?
Say you’re looking at BeaFleur’s StyleFeed. If you like it, and think you’ll want to see what she adds in the future, click the “Add to your watchlist” link in the right-hand column, and the contents of her StyleFeed will show up on your watchlist page. If you add Aaron’s StyleFeed to your watchlist as well, and it will display both of their choices together. You can have as many people as you want in your watchlist.

What are Tags?
Keywords. Labels. Descriptive words applied to any item. For example, audio, cute, or purse. Go to our search page to find items with tags you like.

How do I add my StyleFeed to my own web page?
Click here and follow the instructions to generate HTML you can paste into your web page.
A few tips:

  • If you end up with a bunch of the HTML displayed instead of the badge, go back and make sure that no hard linebreaks (returns) got pasted in along with the HTML.
  • You can adjust the size of the animated widget by changing the “height” and “width” numbers in increments of 50 pixels. The minimum size is 100 pixels high by 50 pixels wide.
  • Blogger, Blogspot, and MoveableType users: paste the code into your Main Template, near the other sidebar content.
  • WordPress users: paste the code into your Sidebar Template.
  • TypePad blogs: go to the TypeLists tool and create a Notes TypeList. Paste the StyleFeeder HTML into that.
  • LiveJournal and WordPress.com users: Both WordPress.com and LiveJournal block embedded Flash (see this explanation,) so be sure to use the non-animated version, which will work fine.
