Try to imagine post WWII Japan. Now imagine post WWII Hawaii with its huge population of americans of Japaniese Ancestry (born and raised in Hawaii) and their immigrant parents. These recordings are Hawaii's Japanese music performed in the early 1950's. In the years immediately following WWII, recorded music from Japan was extremely hard to come by. To satisfy demand, George Ching began recording the Club Nisei Orchestra in Hawaii. They were the first Nisei Orchestra to begin performing following WWII. The post WWII climate had cooled down and it seemed all right for Japanese-Americans in Hawaii to try and get back in touch with their cultural roots. The music of the Club Nisei Orchestra helped them to do just that. An era long gone by....this release will transport you back in time directly to the nightclubs and theaters of Hawaii's post WWII Japanese community. These songs will lure you to the dance floor of long ago...intriguing, exotic, melancholy &! soothing. An enchanting fantasy for all. Enjoy these fabulous Japanese romps through 1950's Hawaii.
