Description

ADHD children have problems concentrating, completing home and school assignments, and controlling impulsivity. Moreover, these youngsters have a poor self-concept and are often depressed, anxious, and easily frustrated. A Comprehensive Guide for Parenting the ADHD Child provides parents, educators, and mental health professionals with a combination of research-based, field-tested strategies that can be used to help them to overcome these difficulties. The research shows that medication combined with behavioral, cognitive, and educational methods is the most effective approach in treating ADHD. It is the non-medication approaches that are often overlooked or underutilized, however. The programs presented in this book are designed to train the child to concentrate, to complete assignments, and to plan ahead. It is the application of these psychologically and educationally based interventions that teach ADHD children to gain the self-control and confidence needed to face the many challenges confronting them.
