That's because this popular and proven snow boot remains a winter cornerstone throughout decades of tough use--and the originals still keep a steady footing around day lodges and chalets. Beneath the waterproof nubuck upper and soft acrylic/wool snow cuff on the Sorel Caribou is a removable 9-mm. ThermoPlus felt inner boot that's rated to -40F, the sort of warmth you need from the first flake to the last melting slop. Sorel recently refined the outsole with an Aerotrac natural rubber sole (it will mark light floors) but all the durability remains the same.
