This year, fashion-conscious women all over will be shopping for a wide variety of styles in women’s slacks that are popping up at shops and boutiques everywhere. Many of the new pants and slacks for spring 2009 are in styles reminiscent of the 1980s. Of course, you will also be able to find the classic styles that you love and have stood the test of time. Many of the slacks that were available last season seem to have retained their form-fitting status and haven’t changed drastically from what we saw last year.

The Hip-Slung Trouser

Big seems to be the in thing with the hip young crowd for the spring of 2009. Slacks that fit on or just below the hip are all the rage. The Gap has just introduced their latest line called “The New Pants” that are described as hip slung trouser pants. Other designers are showcasing this style as well, and they are comparable to J. Crew’s “slouchy chino trousers” that are loosely cuffed at the bottom and were introduced during their spring fashion show.

Pants that fall just above the ankle look to be a fashion trend for this coming spring 2009. You can choose between different hems, such as cuffed, slim-legged or harem style slacks. Other ankle-length slacks include loose-fitting and slim legged pants. Ankle-length slacks with drawstrings on the ankle/calf area are particularly comfortable and can be tightened or loosened to accommodate the pair of shoes you choose to wear with them. Whether you choose to wear cuffed, loose, slim-fitting, or drawstring slacks, you will look like a fashion diva in these hot-off-the runway slacks.

For women in the workplace, the spring trends for dress slacks seem to be straight legged, but not tight. Although many fads come and go, the classic dress slack continues to be trendy but professional, as well. With a wide variety of textures and fabrics you will not have trouble finding a gorgeous solid pair of slacks or even a pair with a pretty print or design. If you like the flare leg look, you may be able to find some dress slacks in this style, as well.

Another popular trend making an appearance this spring is slacks made of textured fabric. Gorgeous silks, slacks with appliqué designs, funky fabric patterns, and even slacks with sequins are showing up on racks everywhere. The sky is the limit when it comes to color and texture this spring! Of course traditional gray, black and other neutral colors will still be worn in that fashionable circles but you can expect to see funky floral prints and textures right along with them.

It’s no secret that women want the curves of Beyonce’ and Jennifer Lopez. Harem pants are specifically tailored and designed to give the illusion of fullness to the hip and thigh area for women who are not naturally curvy. Harem slacks incorporate a loose design and look fabulous on women with a naturally thin frame because of their tendency to give the appearance of extra fullness. A version of these slacks were available in the 1980’s and have made a come back. These slacks look best when worn with a snug-fitting shirt or tank top.

This style is cute and great to wear for ladies on the go. Slouchy trouser slacks have a relaxed look and plenty of room to move around. These versatile slack are a style that can be dressed up for the career women working in a professional setting or the busy mom running errands and taking care of her home. Combine these slacks with a feminine solid or print top for a fresh, spring look. The top should not be baggy, as the look could appear sloppy. Pair them with a fitted top for a great outfit.

You better believe that skinny legged slacks are making a fashion comeback this year.
