Buying Men’s Rings

Buying men’s rings doesn’t have to be that hard. Most shoppers, male and female, are aware of the staggering prices and confusion in the realm of women’s rings but oftentimes we are clueless when it comes to the male side of the ring world. Luckily, there are options and styles for every man in your life that can make a statement that will last a lifetime. Rings in gold – or titanium. Rings with a simple matte finish – or a sprinkling of precious stones. There are many things to consider when purchasing a ring for a man, but there are three main things you must consider…

Metal

Traditionally men’s rings were made of gold, back in the days of cufflinks and top hats. However, modern times have changed this drastically and now there are endless options for materials in men’s rings. Even so, there are six main choices of materials. Those are stainless steel, sterling silver, gold, white gold, platinum, and titanium. These are not the only materials used to make men’s rings, but they are the most common and widely accepted materials used. The occasion and person you are shopping for will obviously change the choice of metal you choose for the ring. Contemporary and modern men may enjoy white gold or platinum rings because of their stylish and polished look, although they are pricier. Active outdoorsman and athletic men may lean towards silver, stainless steel or titanium because of their durability and reasonable price. Traditional men may opt for a simple gold band. The choice of material is completely up to you, so have fun and toy with different materials but if the ring is a gift, always remember to keep the recipient’s lifestyle and taste in mind.

Style

The style of ring is undoubtedly the most important step in choosing a men’s ring and it is also the one that depends most on the man you are buying for. The style of ring is a reflection of the man you are buying for, and with the vast array of rings to choose from, it can be a very tricky decision. The traditional band is a safe choice for weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions because it is simple, basic, and a very common style. The thicker the finger the thicker the band should be; the thinner the finger the thinner the band. That is the common rule, but there are always exceptions. You do want the ring to look proportional to the finger and therefore should keep those basic guidelines in mind. If you are feeling a little more daring, however, many different trendy and stylish rings are perfect for any man. There are many shapes that stray away from the traditional round style and also rings that have designs and patterns etched into the metal. The band can be thick, thin or braided. There are many different designs from wild and outrageous to traditional and conservative. The design of the ring is completely up to you, but ultimately should be a reflection of the wearer’s personality. Pinkie rings are kind of out of fashion, though, unless you know the Sopranos personally.

Finish

The finish of the ring is like icing on the cake, it is the final touch in the selection of a ring. Basically, the finish is the choice between having a polished, shiny ring finish or a matted finish. However, there is also the option of embellishments in the ring such as precious stones like diamonds, or semi-precious stones like quartz. You can add small onyx embellishments or a mix of metals. The choice of stone can depend on the birthstone or the personal preference of the recipient. You also have the option with some rings of engraving, which can add a sentimental or personal touch to the gift that gives it an extra special touch. Engraving is a good option for special occasions and ceremonies such as graduation, weddings, anniversaries, or birthdays. There are many places that offer engraving but sometimes you will have to wait a little longer for the ring or have it sent to an outside company that specializes in engraving.
